Cheltenham Town midfielder Freddy Willcox has joined National League North club Oxford City on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old was an unused substitute for the Hoops' 1-1 draw with leaders Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday afternoon.

“It feels really good to be here," he said after signing for City. “The lads have been really good and helped me out a lot. I’ve met the manager and I’m looking forward to a lot of games coming up.

“Hopefully we can get some points on the board and hopefully I can contribute to that.”

Academy graduate Willcox, who can also play on the left side of defence, signed his first professional contract with the Robins last summer.

He has made four substitute appearances for his parent club in the EFL, along with five outings in cup competitions, also impressing during a loan spell at Evesham United.

Willcox made his senior debut from the bench in the 2-2 final day League One draw with Charlton Athletic on May 7, 2023.

Cheltenham have also loaned out Tom Pett (Oldham Athletic), Harrison Sohna (Wealdstone) and Owen Evans (Barnet) this month.

They have signed five new players, including loanees Ashley Hay, Val Adedokun, Tommy Backwell and Ethan Williams, along with the permanent addition of Darragh Power from Waterford FC.

Boss Michael Flynn is hoping to add at least two more new faces before the transfer window closes on Monday, February 3 (11pm).
