Cheltenham Town midfielder Tommy Backwell is likely to miss around two months with a hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old initially joined on loan from Bristol City, making his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Harrogate Town on January 17.

He capped his full EFL debut with a goal in the 2-1 home win over Salford City eight days later.

Backwell's loan was made permanent on transfer deadline day, but in his first match as a full-time Robins player, away to Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy quarter-finals, he went down injured early in the second half.

A scan on Friday has revealed the extent of the damage and while he could play again this season, he is unlikely to return to full fitness until mid-April.

Backwell has made a total of five appearances for Cheltenham, who play Barrow at home in League Two on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Scot Bennett (calf) is also sidelined, along with long-term absentees Harry Pell and Ryan Haynes.
