Cheltenham Town midfielder Tom Pett is set to join National League club Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old missed Friday night's 2-0 defeat at Harrogate Town due to a dead leg, having scored in the 2-1 EFL Trophy win over Colchester United last Tuesday.

Pett has made five League Two starts this season, but he has been most often used from the bench due to the form of Liam Kinsella and Luke Young in midfield.

Formerly with Port Vale, Lincoln City and Stevenage, Pett joined Cheltenham as a free agent in November 2023 as Darrell Clarke's first new signing.

He became an automatic choice in the battle to survive in League One, making 27 starts and one substitute appearance after making his debut from the bench in the FA Cup defeat at AFC Wimbledon.

Cheshire-based Pett has made 56 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring twice and his contract expires in the summer.

Oldham, managed by Micky Mellon, lie fifth in the table with games in hand on all of them teams above them. Former Robins Charlie Raglan and Billy Waters are both in the squad at Boundary Park.

Cheltenham have signed five players so far this month, with at least two more expected.

They have brought in right-back Darragh Power on an 18-month contract, as well as the loan additions of Brentford pair Ashley Hay and Val Adedokun, Ethan Williams from Manchester United and Bristol City's Tommy Backwell.
