Chiefs vs Eagles last game: How Kansas City vs Philadelphia went in Week 11 of 2023 season

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are meeting in the Super Bowl for the second time in the last three years. While the matchup will feel familiar to NFL fans, it's one that hasn't happened often during the league's history.

Kansas City and Philadelphia have played just 11 NFL games despite their head-to-head history dating back to 1972. Their Super Bowl 59 meeting will be their 12th, and it will represent an opportunity for the Eagles to even up the series.

The Chiefs have the most notable win of the series in Super Bowl 57, but the Eagles earned the more recent head-to-head win over Kansas City. Here's what to know about that matchup and the overall history between the Super Bowl 59 participants.

OPINION: Hate on the Chiefs all you like. Their Super Bowl three-peat run is still legit.

When was the last Chiefs vs. Eagles game?

The Chiefs and Eagles last played one another during the 2023 NFL regular season. The two met in a Week 11 rematch of Super Bowl 57 that saw Philadelphia avenge its loss on the road at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City built a 17-7 first-half lead over the Eagles thanks to a couple of touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes to Justin Watson and Travis Kelce. However, Philadelphia's defense held strong in the second half, shutting out the Chiefs and riding two Jalen Hurts rushing touchdowns to a 21-17 "Monday Night Football" victory.

Hurts didn't have his best game against the Chiefs. He completed just 14 of 22 passes for 150 yards and an interception while taking a season-high five sacks. He made up for it with 29 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, but D'Andre Swift (15 touches, 107 total yards, one touchdown) and DeVonta Smith (six catches, 99 yards) were the catalysts for Philadelphia's offense.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs had a chance to win the game. However, Marquez Valdes-Scantling dropped a potential go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter which proved costly in Kansas City's four-point loss.

That wasn't the only mistake the Chiefs made in the game. Mahomes had a below-average game by his standards. He completed 24 of 43 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns while outrunning Hurts with 38 yards on six carries but turned the ball over twice with an interception and a fumble. That allowed Philadelphia to win the turnover battle and stay competitive despite being outgained 336-238 during the game.

Mahomes' supporting cast in that contest looks a lot different than the one he currently has. Leading receiver Watson (five catches, 53 yards, one touchdown) and leading rusher Isiah Pacheco (19 carries, 89 yards) are still on the team, but have taken on smaller roles. Watson has played just 15 snaps in the 2025 NFL playoffs while Pacheco has taken a backseat to Kareem Hunt as he has struggled to recover from a broken leg suffered earlier in the season.

Add in the injuries to Rashee Rice and Mecole Hardman, and Mahomes' group of weapons will provide a new type of test for Philadelphia. The same can be said of the Eagles' rushing attack, which replaced Swift with Saquon Barkley to create more explosive unit.
