Chris Davies wants his players to embrace the extra attention on the second ‘Hollywood Derby’ of the season – but the Birmingham City boss has again warned against it becoming a distraction.

David Beckham was among the A-Listers who joined Blues chairman Tom Wagner, investor Tom Brady and Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park for the first meeting between the two teams in September. Blues ran out 3-1 victors thanks to a Jay Stansfield brace.

Before that game, which was also screened live on Sky Sports, Davies ordered his players to focus on their jobs and ignore the noise surrounding the fixture. Having said all of that, Davies is more than happy for his top-of-the-table side to be in the spotlight.

“As much as I’m saying it’s just another game, it’s always positive that there’s interest in us and there’s interest in the fixture,” he said. “That can only be a good thing.

“We just don’t need to let that distract us. For the league, for the clubs, to have that level of interest, is great. From our point of view we want to deliver the right type of performance and get the right type of result.”

A Blues victory would put eight points between themselves and third-placed Wrexham, with two games-in-hand, making automatic promotion back to the Championship a probability rather than a possibility.

Davies added: “It would be a good step to go and get a result like that. We have put ourselves in a really strong position, whatever happens.”

It remains to be seen who will be present in the directors’ box at Wrexham. Blues owners Knighthead are expected to be represented at the Racecourse Ground.

“I know there’s a good chance our owners will be there,” said Davies. “That’s all I know. I haven’t heard of any other A-List celebrities but I’m sure there will be people there watching it. If they’re not there watching it live, they will be watching it on telly and it will have a big audience.”
