Chris Davies believes Birmingham City were on the wrong end of two refereeing decisions during their draw with Wrexham.

A scrappy goal which has been credited to Lyndon Dykes cancelled out Ollie Rathbone's early strike for Wrexham and Blues battled hard in the second half to take a point. Blues are one of three teams to avoid defeat at the Racecourse Ground in League One this season.

It might have been more than a point had referee Will Finnie viewed two situations differently in the opening 10 minutes. Firstly, Finnie failed to award a penalty when Dykes' header struck a Wrexham hand inside the box. "It’s a penalty. If that’s VAR you get a penalty," said Blues boss Davies.

Blues were also left feeling aggrieved that Rathbone's goal was allowed to stand after Ollie Palmer appeared to foul Taylor Gardner-Hickman in the build-up.

Davies added: "I thought it was a foul in the lead up to their goal with Taylor. I’m biased on all these things but it’s another game where I think the lion’s share of decisions went against us.

"We have to get on with that. The main thing was we didn’t let it derail us, we continued to play our game. We’ll take the point."

Wrexham took control of the game after half-time and launched an aerial assault on Blues' box. Central defenders Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies repelled everything to ensure Blues escaped with a point.

"I said to the players after the game that every question we’ve been asked in terms of physicality and when teams are super direct, we’ve always come up with the answers. It take a lot to do that when a game gets like that," Blues boss Davies reflected.

"It’s League One, it’s very physical, a lot of teams have good crossers of the ball, good set piece threats. We defended the box well, so fair play to Chris and Ben."
