Chris Davies has heaped praise on Birmingham City match-winner Keshi Anderson after his wonderstrike decided their battle with promotion rivals Huddersfield Town.

Anderson rattled home a 20-yard volley four minutes into the second half to hand Blues a vital victory. A precious three points on the road means Blues are now eight points ahead of third-placed Wrexham in the race for automatic promotion, with two games-in-hand.

“We spoke about the need for real quality moments and we were given one by Keshi Anderson,” said Davies.

It was all the more impressive given the fact it was Anderson’s first start since Boxing Day due to injury. The winger made a seamless return to the starting line-up and showed Blues are better with him in it.

Davies commented: “It shows the work of the medical sports science department in getting the players back from injury and his own application to that because players can take it easy and build their way up when they get back but with Keshi, there’s only one way that he’s come back in that condition and that’s because he was working really hard when he was injured.

“He looked like he hadn’t been out. He was really sharp, really dangerous on that left side, strong and he deserved a goal for the performances he’s put in in the last couple of games.”

Davies has taken to Anderson and when the 29-year-old has been fit, he has invariably started. Anderson has repaid Davies with six goals and a shed load of assists from his 27 appearances.

“Within the first week of pre-season I spoke to Keshi and said I can see why when the games really mattered that you were in the team,” Davies added. “He’s a winger that will give you an attacking threat but he will do his job defensively, and that’s what the best wingers do.

“He’s very reliable. He had a big job today on that left-hand side defensively and he always does it well. But when he goes forward, his goals and assists numbers would be one of the best in our squad as well.”
