Chris Sutton gives Rangers a Man Utd chance but something 'extraordinary' will have to change at Old Trafford

Chris Sutton doesn't fancy Rangers' chances of getting a result at Old Trafford - despite Manchester United being in the midst of a crisis.

Fuming Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim branded his flops "maybe the worst Manchester United side in history" after they were humbled at home to Brighton in their final match before the Battle of Britain Europa League showdown on January 23. United have won just five of their 15 matches under the Portuguese boss following his appointment in November, whilst Philippe Clement's Rangers have banished their domestic woes on Europa League Thursdays - losing just once in six matches.

However Celtic hero Sutton believes that the Light Blues' sloppy away form will stand between them and a European shock at Old Trafford. Rangers have won just three of their 11 Premiership matches away from fortress Ibrox this season, ruling out any chance of a title challenge - despite dropping points just once in front of their own fans all campaign.

Asked whether Rangers could heap more misery on United on the It's All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton replied: "The contrast between Rangers' home form and away form is extraordinary. I mean, really, really extraordinary. I would say no. But I'm not convinced with Man Utd either, so I do think Rangers have a chance.

"Their away form has been so bad domestically this season though. The amount of points they have dropped away from home is the difference in the title race in Scotland, so I would say no. But you never know which Man Utd team will turn up. Will it be the worst team in the world?"

The Gers are unbeaten in their three away matches so far in the Europa League however, and battered French side Nice 4-1 on their last trip - who are owned by Man Utd majority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe. A creditable draw with Greek giants Olympiacos and win in Sweden over Malmo have also raised eyebrows on the continent. And United defender Noussair Mazraoui has warned his teammates to be wary of the threat posed by star of the Nice rout, Hamza Igamane, who has netted seven times in his last six matches.

He said: "Stopping Igamane is one of the challenges for us. He has been excellent for Rangers. Our defenders will need to pay attention to him and not give him space in the penalty area. That will be really important.”
