Chris Sutton hit back at Rio Ferdinand with a brutal Man Utd put down after the TNT Sports pundit made a bold Bruno Fernandes claim.

The Portuguese struck in stoppage time to break Rangers hearts and deny them a valuable Europa League point at Old Trafford. After a Jack Butland howler had given Ruben Amorim's side the lead, Gers thought they'd grabbed a late draw thanks to a great touch and emphatic finish from Cyriel Dessers off the bench. But Fernandes had the last word, stealing in behind Jefte to fire between Butland's legs and win it.

The game prompted a three-way social media exchange on X. Former Chelsea and St Johnstone midfielder Jody Morris asked Ferdinand whether United would finish in the top 3 in the "SPL." Ferdinand hit straight back, claiming that Fernandes would score "112 goals up there." And that caught Sutton's eye, who waded in to try and take Ferdinand down a peg or two.

He replied with: "St Mirren would beat Manchester United comfortably." And that encouraged Scottish Premiership fans to pile in with their own assessment.

One added: "To be fair, we beat Rangers 2-1 recently as well...probably a score draw." Another said: "Could you imagine Man Utd at Killie away? Vassell and Watkins would give them fits."

And no-one wanted their club to be left out as more suggestion came in: "Ross County or St Johnstone would leather them as well ffs," with another claiming: "Genuinely, Hibs would give that Utd side a decent game."
