Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is hopeful new contracts will soon be agreed with Ola Aina and Chris Wood.

The duo have six months remaining on their current deals and are yet to put pen to paper on new ones. Talks have been held and the Reds are said to be optimistic of reaching an agreement with both players, but they will be well aware time is ticking.

From January 1, players whose contracts expire in June have been able to negotiate with foreign clubs. Those affected are able to sign pre-contract agreements to ensure their futures are decided long before the campaign is over.

However, Nuno has provided a positive update where defender Aina and striker Wood are concerned. And he is confident the off-field talk will not prove to be a distraction for the pair.

Asked whether he is hopeful the club will soon have Aina and Wood tied down, Nuno said: “I think so. I think things are going well and the players are working very good.”

Reports have suggested Forest put a one-year extension on the table for Wood, who is said to have admirers in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the MLS. However, the New Zealand international is said to be keen for a two-year deal amid his preference to remain at the City Ground.

On the possibility of a new deal, Wood has previously said: "Whenever it happens, it happens. It's not something I can control or worry about. I can't let it affect me. These things take time and I just have to worry about scoring goals, winning games and doing well for this club.”

Aina, meanwhile, has been linked with Manchester City, Roma, AC Milan and Galatasaray. When suggestions of a new contract being in the offing emerged earlier this season, he said in September: "All I can say is I am really happy at Forest.

“Fantastic club, I feel at home and we're just building. I'm building, the club's building. Let's just see what happens in the future."
