City deserving of high league spot, says Sutton manager Steve Morison
IT was planned to perfection for Sutton United manager Steve Morison after his side executed a 2-1 win over York City on Saturday.
The Sutton boss was overjoyed with his players' performance against promotion hopefuls York, and credited how his side carried out the game plan set out from the coaching staff.
It was a Will Davies brace that spearheaded the U's to three points, powering home a header from Lewis Simper's teasing corner kick, before thrashing home an impressive finish from a counter-attack.
Morison went on to credit York too for their displays so far this season, and believes that City warrant their current position in the National League.
“It went according to plan, so, so pleased, I haven’t got enough words to use in my vocabulary to say how great they were," Morison told club media.
"We knew that we had to give up a little bit in possession because they’re a very good team, they are where they should be in the league, so all credit to them.
"In the first-half we could have been 2-0 up before we were 2-0 up, but we scored two excellent goals and created a few more in the second-half, apart from the spawny goal, that they get.
"It was one slip and that's how it seems to be for us sometimes, it's one slip on the edge of the box and the ball ends up in the back of the net.
"We've come away, a big crowd that get behind them when they're on top, but also get onto them when they're not.
"We had to play on that, and to a man the lads were fantastic, the staff as well for how they prepared the players for as much as we can. "
Davies was the hero for Sutton after scoring an emphatic brace, with two powerful efforts that beat goalkeeper Harrison Male.
It was another performance that impressed Morison, a former Championship striker himself, who praised the recent efforts of his talisman.
Morison continued: "He's been excellent, that's 11 or 12 for the season.
"He's been fantastic, he's having his best season with us and he's a good player.
"I had to take him off because he said that his legs had gone, and I haven't heard him say that this year!
"He's been fantastic and he's in a rich vein of form at the minute."
