ADAM Hinshelwood is hopeful of adding a wide option to his York City squad before Saturday’s match.

Following the news that Dipo Akinyemi is set to be out for a sustained period of time through a knee injury, Hinshelwood is turning his attention to the loan market.

The York manager has previously spoken on his hopes for depth in the wide positions, but the end of loans for David Ajiboye and Luca Thomas, the mutual release of Callum Harriott and the injury to Akinyemi has seen City become slightly light in that position.

Therefore, Hinshelwood and his team have worked to identify potential transfer options, even taking some on trial.

“That’s the key area that we have identified,” Hinshelwood explained.

“We’ve sat down with Matt [Uggla, co-chair] and Macca [Tony McMahon, Director of Football] and the coaching staff the other day, and we’ve put a bit of a squad list up.

“It’s quite evident to see that we like to play with wingers and we’re a bit light in that area.

“Obviously we can play players out in those positions and they’ll do more than a good job for us, but we want that competition.

“That’s what I thought served us so well, there was a time that we would make three or four subs who could make a real impact, those forward players make a real difference.

“It’s definitely an area where we are looking to recruit and bring players in.”

Hinshelwood isn’t yet sure whether they will have a deal complete by the time Saturday’s match with Dagenham & Redbridge (3pm), at the LNER Community Stadium, comes around.

The boss has been boosted by returns to training for Ryan Fallowfield and Paddy McLaughlin, who have also joined two unnamed trialists in the City ranks.

He continued: “It’s going to be touch and go really. We’ve had a couple of players come in that we’re having a look at in training, so we’ll have a look and see where we’re at.

“We’re hopeful that we’ll have Ryan back, Paddy back training as well, so them two will be available for the squad.

“We’re hopeful that we’ll have at least one wide player in the building to compliment the squad for Saturday.”

A factor potentially affecting City’s current business is the Football League transfer window, which comes to an end on Monday, February 3 (11pm).

Hinshelwood believes that players that are available for loan will wait to see if an EFL move can transpire first, before being open to a move into the National League, whose window is open until mid-March.

“I think that this time next week, there will be more players available.

“If they’ve been told by their parent clubs that they can go out on loan, then there is the option of league football still and they will want to pursue that sort of option first.

“If they’re not able to transpire with those opportunities, then until mid-March, the next best thing is for them to go to the National League.

“I think a few more players will become available.”
