City loan in young Burnley forward Lewis Richardson for rest of season
YORK City have signed young forward Lewis Richardson on loan from Championship high-fliers Burnley until the end of the season.
With Dipo Akinyemi ruled out for the foreseeable future with a knee injury and both Luca Thomas and David Ajiboye returning to their parent clubs at the end of their respective loans in January, Adam Hinshelwood had teased that an attacking option would be the next new face into the club.
21-year-old Richardson arrives in perfect timing for tomorrow afternoon's National League clash at home to Dagenham & Redbridge, in which City will hope to close the gap on both Barnet and Forest Green Rovers.
The forward has progressed through the Clarets' Academy, where he went on to make his first-team debut off the bench in a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Experienced at both England Under 16s and Under 17s level, he spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at League Two side Grimsby Town, going on to score twice in 15 appearances for the Mariners.
There, he featured in the club's historic run to the FA Cup quarter-finals, including scoring the only goal in their third round win against Burton Albion.
Speaking on his arrival in York, Richardson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be here, I’ve been around for the last few days now and the lads have really helped me settle in.
"It’s a nice group of lads; the staff as well have really made it easy. I’m enjoying being here and can’t wait to get started on the pitch.”
