YORK City's match at Maidenhead United has been postponed.

With temperatures expected to fall as low as -5 degrees overnight, the decision has been made to call tomorrow's National League fixture off.

A pitch inspection took place by a local referee on Friday morning, with the York Road playing surface being deemed not playable, with conditions not expected to improve.

It's the sixth National League fixture of the weekend which has fallen victim to the weather, with AFC Fylde's match against Sutton United postponed, Altrincham's trip to Wealdstone, Barnet's tie with Hartlepool United, Gateshead's home match versus Braintree Town and Oldham's clash with Eastleigh.

It's not a surprise to manager Adam Hinshelwood, who previously stated on any potential postponement: “You just want to keep some momentum and keep the game’s on, especially on the back of a defeat when the next game has come around quickly.

“We want to put the wrongs of that defeat right, so the longer that drags on the worse it is really.

“It’s not ideal, we’ve had it already once where the supporters have travelled over to Oldham and the fog has beaten us on that day.

“It’s disappointing and probably more so for the supporters, their time and effort is part and parcel of being a footballer.

“We’ve got to be able to deal with it and whatever the situation is, be ready.

“In terms of whether the pitch is going to be frozen or playable, the forecast is relatively good nowadays, so I don’t think you’ll get too many occasions where they predict a cold snap and it’ll be glorious sunshine where you can play games of football."

The York Knights' pre-season friendly with Hunslet on Sunday has also been postponed due to weather along with York Acorn's opening Betfred Challenge Cup match with GB Police.

Pickering Town's home match with Handsworth has also been cancelled, whilst Leeds United under-21's clash with Manchester United under-21's at the LNER Community Stadium has been postponed.

Selby Town and Tadcaster Albion have also had their matches called off.
