Maksym Talovierov was determined to leave nothing to chance when he made his Plymouth Argyle debut just a day after completing his club record transfer from Austrian side LASK Linz.

The Ukraine international arrived in Plymouth on the Thursday night, had a brief training session the next day before putting in an impressive first appearance for the Pilgrims last Saturday in their 2-1 defeat of Championship play-off hopefuls West Bromwich Albion at Home Park.

Taloveirov did not have much time to prepare for the match but he still made sure to do his homework on the opposition. The 24-year-old asked first team analyst Harry Powell to provide him with 90-minute match videos from West Brom's previous three matches.

The Pilgrims' new recruit watched Albion's 1-1 draw at home to Stoke City, the 2-0 defeat away to Middlesbrough and the 5-1 home defeat of Portsmouth, which allowed him to get a good insight into them.

That attention to detail is sure to have impressed head coach Miron Muslic, who also brought in experienced Bosnia and Herzegovina international defender Nikola Katic on loan from Swiss club FC Zurich on the same day as Talovierov arrived.

The duo made their debuts in the starting line-up against West Brom and have wasted no time in making a positive impression on the Pilgrims' boss, both on and off the pitch.

He said: "Top professionals, top guys. A big improvement already in the locker room because they are arriving first at 8.30 so it forces the other guys to come a little bit earlier.

"Those guys are first in the gym and the last to leave the gym after the training so they are raising the bar on the pitch but also off the pitch so I'm very happy with both signings.

"I think being capable to have this kind of performance against West Brom after travelling for two-and-a-half days and having only one matchday minus-one session with us is very promising, and we will need them both."
