Classy Tottenham hit Millwall for six in FA Cup demolition job

Dominant Tottenham Hotspur cruised into the FA Cup semi-finals after hammering Millwall at White Hart Lane.

Spurs produced a stunning six-goal performance to sink the League 1 side and the only blot on the copybook was a nasty injury to Harry Kane.

The England international limped out of the match with less than 10 minutes on the clock having picked up an ankle problem.

He was replaced by Christian Eriksen and the Danish substitute broke the deadlock for the hosts on the half-hour mark with a smart finish.

Son Heung-min put Mauricio Pochettino’s men firmly in the driving seat before the interval with a superb drive that flashed past Tom King.

Kieran Trippier was the architect for number three as Son executed the perfect volley after keeping his eye on the ball.

Eriksen was extremely influential, given license to roam by his manager, and his through ball was tapped home by Dele Alli for Tottenham’s fourth.

Perhaps the most pleasing finish of the afternoon was that of struggling frontman Vincent Janssen.

Janssen has had a dreadful first season in the Premier League but he swept home his first goal from open play to rub salt into Millwall’s wounds.

Son, undoubtedly the star of the show for Spurs, grabbed his hat-trick in injury time thanks to a mistake from Lions keeper King.

Tottenham will take their place in the hat for the draw for the last four of football’s oldest competition and can start planning for a trip to Wembley.

Spurs scorer Alli told BBC Sport: “It is always horrible to lose a player like Harry but when he went off everyone stepped up a gear.

“We wish him a speedy recovery. It was an important win for us not just in the cup but in the league as well, it is important to get the goals. We were hungry for goals.”

Millwall manager Neil Harris is hopeful a thumping at the hands of top opposition won’t derail his team’s charge towards promotion.

He added: “It was disappointing to concede the goals we did. I thought we lost our way in the last 20 minutes but there is no getting away from what a good team they are.

“We are disappointed because we have been beaten 6-0 at Spurs. This is the quality you are playing against. If we can use this experience then the standards are there that we need to set individually and collectively.

“This was always a nice distraction for us but we were 17 games unbeaten before today and it won’t be a problem for us. We will bounce back from tomorrow.”
