Leeds United took another step towards a dream return to the Premier League on Tuesday night as they ran out routine 4-0 winners over Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Whites went into the match knowing that they had the chance to put pressure on their promotion rivals by picking up three points. All three of Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland are in action on Wednesday night - but Leeds will be watching on knowing they got the job done and increased their lead at the top-of-the-table to five points.

Three first-half goals from Dan James (2) and Manor Solomon put Daniel Farke's men in a commanding position - while the result was put beyond doubt when Joel Piroe made it 4-0 just after the hour-mark.

Focus for Leeds will now turn to a crucial double header against Sunderland and Sheffield United on two Monday night matches in a row. Those three teams are part of the four still vying for the two automatic promotion places.

But with concentration turning to that, why don't we revel in their win over Watford for just a bit longer? Here is what the national media had to say about the emphatic victory and Leeds' promotion hopes;

The Daily Mail, James Sharpe

Another win for Leeds, another step towards to the Premier League and another reminder that Farke's side are clearly too good for the Championship.

It's now five goals in seven league games for James, who scored a sensational nine-minute brace in the first half at Vicarage Road, six clean sheets in a row for goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and a win that sends Leeds five points clear at the top.

Leeds last lost a league game in November. They last conceded a league goal on the fourth of January. They have scored 18 goals since then as Solomon and Piroe completed the rout.

Leeds maintained their promotion charge with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Watford at Vicarage Road to extend their lead at the top of the Championship table to five points.

Two goals inside nine first-half minutes from James - the Wales international pouncing on mistakes from the Hornets - set Farke's side on course.

A third before half-time from Solomon added further pain and an intricate move finished off with brilliant close control from Piroe just after the hour left Leeds free to coast home unchallenged.

The Times, Jon West

Two James goals in eight first-half minutes set Leeds on the way to an emphatic victory that extended their lead at the top-of-the-table to five points.

Solomon and Piroe were also on target, with Watford's ineptitude eroding the already tenuous job security of their head coach Tom Cleverley.

This was a fifth straight home defeat for Watford as Leeds celebrated three successive league wins to the tune of 13 goals scored and none conceded.
