Club issues manager sack 'speculation' statement amid Coventry City uncertainty
Watford have dismissed speculation over the future of head coach Tom Cleverley and confirmed he will be in charge for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match at Coventry City.
Following Tuesday night’s 2-1 home defeat by Preston – a fifth loss in the last eight league games – it was reported the Hornets are poised to replace Cleverley with former Villarreal head coach Jose Rojo Martin.
However, Watford, who sit eighth, a point outside the play-offs ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, insist it is business as usual at Vicarage Road.

A club statement on X read: “Watford FC confirms Tom will be in charge for the match at Coventry City and that the speculation over his position is just that – pure speculation.”
Former Manchester United midfielder Cleverley took over following the departure of Valerien Ismael in March 2024, initially as caretaker before getting the job full-time.
Cleverley is a popular figure with the Watford fanbase, having also had a spell at the club as a player and captain before his retirement through injury in the summer of 2023.
Since taking control of the club in 2012, Watford’s owners, the Pozzo family, have appointed 19 different managers.
