Cody Gakpo was pleased that Liverpool managed to keep a clean sheet against West Ham after letting in too many goals of late.

The Reds conceded 10 goals in the six games leading up to Sunday's trip to the London Stadium, drawing 3-3 and 2-2 with Newcastle and Fulham respectively earlier in December, and also shipping four goals across victories over Tottenham and Leicester.

At the other end of the pitch, Liverpool's attack has been irresistible, with 17 goals scored in that six-game run covering up for the team's shortcomings at the back.

However, it is risky business to expect to consistently win matches while conceding a lot of goals, and Gakpo revealed that the team had discussed a desire to stay tight at the back leading into the game at West Ham.

He told BBC's Match of the Day: "Today it was a good performance from our side again and we managed to score a few goals. Good match.

"It is a lot of goals [17 scored by Liverpool in its last last four away games in the Premier League]. We work a lot on trying to create chances and score goals. Today we could maybe have scored some more but we are working hard to do that.

"We said before the game we wanted to do everything to keep the clean sheet. We did that really well at the start of the season but in recent weeks we have conceded some goals. Hopefully from this point on we can go back to the clean sheets."

Gakpo scored his 11th goal of the season in the win against West Ham and the goal was put on a plate for him by Mohamed Salah, who nutmegged two Hammers players in the build-up.

The first nutmeg was particularly eye-catching, as the ball brushed Salah's right boot and went through the legs of Konstantinos Mavropanos.

On the intent involved in Salah's assist, Gakpo said: "Maybe it was a bit of skill, maybe it was a bit of luck, I don't know. But he got the ball to me and I tapped it in."
