Cody Gakpo has spoken highly of the new dynamic between him and Luis Diaz in the Liverpool team.

In previous seasons, Gakpo was often used as an auxiliary striker, with Luis Diaz stationed on the left wing, but those roles have been reversed of late. Diaz has played through the middle four times this season, scoring five goals: a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and a brace against Tottenham in the Premier League last weekend.

Gakpo, meanwhile, has featured in a central position just three times under Arne Slot having done so 27 times under Jurgen Klopp last term. Slot has been forced to come up with solutions in his forward line owing to Diogo Jota's recent injury as well as the struggles of Darwin Nunez in front of goal.

Jota missed nearly two months of action with a chest injury, while Nunez has registered just two Premier League goals all season and questions remain over whether he has a long-term future at the club. Gakpo is thriving in his more natural position on the left wing under Slot and is clearly enjoying playing in the same team as Diaz.

"I think it’s good," Gakpo said of his chemistry with Diaz in an interview with Liverpool's website. "Obviously he plays a little bit more central now but sometimes he comes to the left and I go in the middle, then we switch again. It has been a good dynamic and we both get in dangerous positions to score.

"He showed again on Sunday how dangerous he is – in the box with his head, and his second goal I think was a great run and a good finish. I think when we play together, the way we click together is that we go in each other’s positions and going back, trying to make our actions and getting each other in the best possible position to be dangerous."
