Cody Gakpo has sent a defiant message to Liverpool supporters after they dropped points in a second consecutive Premier League game with a 2-2 draw at home to Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

While last week's visit to Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby was postponed, it was some much-needed respite after their dramatic 3-3 draw away at Newcastle United a week prior. However, Arne Slot's side suffered another blow on Saturday when they were held to a draw at Anfield.

Some may view it as a point gained, rather than two points dropped, as the hosts fell behind early doors following a goal from former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira. Matters then went from bad to worse as Andy Robertson was given a straight red card for a last-man challenge on Harry Wilson.

Gakpo handed a 10-man Liverpool a lifeline in the second half as he put them back on level terms with a headed effort. Fulham then got their noses back in front courtesy of a goal from substitute Rodrigo Muniz.

Diogo Jota, making his first appearance since suffering a rib injury against Chelsea in October, came on to clinch another late equaliser for Liverpool. The draw keeps Liverpool top of the table with a game in hand, although Chelsea have an opportunity to reduce the deficit to just two points with a win over Brentford on Sunday.

Taking to social media after the match, Gakpo sent a defiant message to supporters as they gear up for a crucial run of fixtures over Christmas. Liverpool travel away to Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals midweek and a trip to Tottenham Hotspur awaits next Sunday.

"Together, we rise and fight," Gakpo wrote on Instagram. "Thank you Reds for the support."

Gakpo has now scored nine goals and registered two assists for Liverpool across all competitions this season. He is just over halfway to matching last term's tally of 16 goals.
