Cody Gakpo urges Liverpool to keep Mohamed Salah for 'a long time' amid contract wait
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has urged the Reds to ensure that star man Mohamed Salah is tied down beyond the end of this season with the Egyptian having netted 18 goals and provided 15 assists in 24 appearances so far under Arne Slot.
As it stands, Salah will be out of contract in the summer with the Liverpool number 11 in the same position as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. But his importance at Anfield has never been clearer — indeed, there is an argument that this could become his best-ever season on Merseyside if he continues his current rate of impact in front of goal.
Scoring twice against Spurs last weekend, Salah moved ahead of Billy Liddell to become his club's fourth-highest goalscorer of all time. He now only needs 13 more goals to move into third spot, with the 32-year-old primed to overtake Gordon Hodgson.

"I don’t know what to say!" Gakpo told the Reds' official website. "It’s very special what we are all witnessing. The amount of goals he scores but the assists he gives as well, the way he plays the game, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like myself in a position to score and to be dangerous is from a high level.
"I hope for us and for him that he can continue doing that for a long time. We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his teammate and try to make him better. And he is trying to make us better as well."
Liverpool.com says: Salah just keeps on proving that he is still performing at the top of the game. Ultimately, with that being the case and the Egyptian settled at Anfield and keen to stay, there should be an agreement to be found.
Heading into January, though, it is a concern. The last thing that Slot needs is Salah leaving in 2025 — or even just becoming something of a distraction amid a title bid. Hopefully it can be sorted out sooner rather than later but Liverpool fans have been saying that for months.
