Cole Palmer returned to his former home with Chelsea on Saturday, but he didn’t manage to get one over on his former club. The Blues travelled to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in the 5.30pm kick-off.

It didn’t take long for Chelsea to take the lead as Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke benefited from a mistake from debutant Abdukodir Khusanov after just three minutes. That lead lasted until just before half time when Josko Gvardiol drew City level.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden in the second half turned the game around to give Pep Guardiola’s side all three points.

The game saw Palmer come up against some of his former teammates and his former manager in Pep Guardiola. He joined Chelsea from City in the summer of 2023, and has gone from strength to strength in a Chelsea shirt soon.

At full-time of the game at the Etihad Stadium, cameras caught the reunion between Palmer and Guardiola. As they made their way off the pitch, the two are shown in conversation and sharing a joke.

The camera then pans back to the continuing conversation as the two continue to smile and chat and smile, although it’s not clear what they are talking about.

Since joining Chelsea from Man City, Palmer has faced his former club in five games. The first two saw the Blues draw 4-4 and 1-1. He has been on the losing side for the last two games, while there was also a 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat last season.

Palmer and Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from the defeat against City. The Blues are back in action on Monday, 3 February when they take on West Ham United, a game which will see the return of former manager Graham Potter to Stamford Bridge.
