Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has given his verdict on which team he wants to lift the League One title.

The race for top spot in the third tier heated up on Sunday as Wrexham snatched a crucial win over Wigan Athletic thanks to a late goal from Steven Fletcher.

The Red Dragons rose to second after their promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers lost 2-1 at Charlton.

Meanwhile, Birmingham City were held to a goalless draw at home against Blackpool.

The results put Phil Parkinson's side one point behind league leaders Birmingham, who have two games in hand.

Agbonlahor enjoyed a successful career with the Blues' local rivals and is still Villa's leading Premier League goalscorer.

Discussing the League One title chase on talkSPORT, the 38-year-old took a cheeky dig at Birmingham after declaring: "Come on Wrexham, come on Wycombe. Liven up!"

Agbonlahor said he believes it will be a close contest for the two automatic promotion places on offer.

It comes as Wycombe are just one point behind Wrexham with a game in hand.

He added that whichever teams ends up in the play offs could face a tough time.

He said: "It's still tight and one of those teams is going to end up in the play offs.

"You don't want to be in the play offs when you've been up the top all season. It's painful because it's an extra two or three weeks you're in for."

Despite his attempt to wind up Birmingham fans, Agbonlahor revealed earlier in the show that he would actually like to see Wrexham's rivals get promoted.

He said: "Birmingham shouldn't be in League One. As much as I dislike them, they should be in the Championship and I want them to be in the Premier League for derby games against Villa.

"It would be lovely to work at one of the derby games. It would be fun walking up the gantry at St Andrews being chased.

"It's nice as well for Birmingham City fans, especially younger ones, to see their team winning every week.

"I know they drew yesterday but some fans would rather their team be in a lower league and winning."
