He’s at the heart of the January transfer window, the conduit between head coach Tom Cleverley and owner Gino Pozzo, the man charged with trying to recruit players.

Sporting director Gian Luca Nani knows the spotlight is on him – and today he gave his first external UK interview in 12 months to The Watford Observer.

The Italian spent almost an hour fielding questions, going into greater detail where asked and handling some of the complaints and issues that have caused anger among the fanbase.

Sitting in his office overlooking the training pitches at London Colney as the sun began to set on January 29 – only five days before the transfer window shuts – Nani’s candid answers made for a long interview.

It will be split into chunks and the first will be online before the end of today.

To make sure you don’t miss the chance to read the thoughts of the sporting director, you can subscribe to The Watford Observer now – it’s just £3 for three months, which will pretty much take you through to the end of the season.

It is an interview exclusive to The Watford Observer, and one that will not appear on any club channels – and no other media were present.

Part one will be online this evening!
