Matty McHale is determined to show why he’s top of the bill after landing a blockbuster British title shot against Brandon Daord.

The unbeaten super flyweight ace will scrap it out for the major strap in just his eighth bout as a pro at the Gladiators show at the Caledonian Area in East Kilbride on Saturday, February 8.

McHale – who won Commonwealth Games bronze in 2022 – insisted he’s ready to rock and follow in the footsteps of famous Scots to bag the British crown.

The 28-year-old said: “My name is being put up in lights but I have worked really hard to get here.

“I’ve earned my spot and I want to show that in February.

“I am 100 percent up for this. We’ve been calling this out since my third fight. It’s surreal it’s almost here. I’m training full steam ahead and it’s been going amazing.

“This is a camp of a lifetime and everything has gone to a tee."

McHale is convinced he'll be crowned but knows Scouser Daord – who is unbeaten in 10 bouts – will be tough.

“We know all about Daord. He’s slick, he’s very good, it should be a cracking fight. I believe there’s levels to this game and I am levels above – and I’ll show that on the night.

“I know I can do the 12 rounds no problem, I always prepare for it to go the distance. He’s been inactive for over a year so he should be worried about going 12 rounds with me. It will be a hard fight for him.”

McHale will co-headline a bumper card along with Bobby Morrell’s Celtic light heavyweight title rematch with Aaron Bird.

Jake Limond is also in title action along with Martin Crossan, Luke Bibby, Jack Turner and Cassidy Todd – with fight night being beamed live UK-wide on the BBC.

St Andrews Sporting Club promoter Iain Wilson said: “It’s great for the club to be involved with the BBC after such a long history with the broadcasters.

“It’s going to showcase the fabulous group of boxers we have in the stable. “It’s a really stacked card with top bouts and the fact it is on television is fantastic for their profile for the fighters.

“It’s great to be on terrestrial television, you get crazy numbers watching, and they will get to see a showcase of Scottish boxing.”
