'Complete and utter loss' - Charlton boss doubles down on referee gripe
Charlton boss Nathan Jones has doubled down on his frustrations with the officials against Wanderers – and says the club have “asked for observations”.
Jones felt George Thomason should have been shown a second yellow card on the stroke of half time following a late challenge.
He also insisted that Jay Matete should have seen red for a “stamp” in the final stages as the Addicks kept the ball in the corner.
Charlton won the game 2-1 after goals from Lloyd Jones and Karoy Anderson in the final 20 minutes, but Jones was still frustrated with the decisions as he looked ahead to Saturday’s home game against Shrewsbury.
“We saw it live,” he told South London Press. “We knew it happened. We had video footage and saw it instantly. Then, with video footage – it’s a stamp.
“The ironic thing is that I have no idea how the referee didn’t see it when Matty Godden, who is in the exact same line eye line as him, but four yards further back. Unless Matty’s eyesight is considerably better than that, I could not understand.
“When the captain, Thomason, got a yellow card for a cynical pull on Tyreece Campbell then the second challenge is actually worse.
“That’s a yellow in every single football game on the planet but, somehow, the referee allowed him to get away with it.
“I don’t want to get myself into trouble, but I am at an absolute complete and utter loss how that was not a yellow card.
“That’s two red cards. I understood the frustrations of Matete late on in terms of keeping it in the corner and seeing out the game.
“For me, the other one was more important than that. That had no relevance or bearing on the game, the other one categorically did. We have asked for observations on both. Let’s see what comes back.”
