Concord Rangers suffer defeat against Tilbury
CONCORD Rangers’ first trip to Tilbury since 2010 ended in defeat with the Beach Boys losing 2-0 at Chadfields.
Both goals came in the first half for the Dockers with Kieran Jones firing home from a corner before Sam Bantick doubled the scoreline with an impressive lobbed finish.
Concord came into the game winless in four and started like a side out of form, finding themselves 2-0 down in the opening half an hour.
The hosts had the first chance of the contest with a glancing Jack Hayes header going across the face of goal and wide from a Bantick free kick.
However 11 minutes later, and from another set-piece, Tilbury broke the deadlock.
A Bantick corner went through a sea of bodies and came through to Jones who fired a pop-shot into the bottom corner of the net from just inside the area.
Concord’s first opportunity came after 23 minutes when Kennedy Mupomba laid the ball back to Bill Knott on the edge of the box, but the experienced midfielder saw his shot go wide of the far corner.
Three minutes after this Tilbury doubled their lead with two former Beach Boys combining to haunt their former club.
Alex Hernandez whipped in a cross into a dangerous area, and Bantick ghosted into the box and lobbed the ball over Harry Seaden and in for his 13th goal of the season.
On the stroke of half time Concord again had a chance to score when a Freddie Price cross picked out debutant Marko Protic, but his header looped harmlessly into the arms of George Marsh.
The second half was pretty forgettable at Tilbury with Marc Harrison’s side able to comfortably see the game out.
The Dockers came close to adding a third with Lindell Stewart having a blocked shot deflect straight at Seaden and Hernandez saw a back post header drop wide from a corner.
At the other end Lewis Jaggs headed off target from a Harvey Brown free kick as Tilbury held on to keep a first clean sheet at home of the season.
A fourth loss in five games for Concord sees them remain 15th due to Basildon United also losing tonight.
This was also the second time this term that Rangers have lost 2-0 at Chadfields, having been beaten by Grays Athletic at the same stadium in September.
As for Tilbury another three points maintains their 100 per cent start to 2025.
They remain seventh in the Isthmian North standings but are now just a point off the play-offs with games in hand.
Elsewhere tonight, Billy Cove suffered defeat in his first game as Basildon United boss, losing 2-1 at home to Redbridge.
The defeat leaves the Bees 16th in the Isthmian North standings.
