Confident Philippe Clement claims he’s like other Rangers bosses and will survive without a trophy
Under fire Philippe Clement is confident the Rangers WON'T sack him despite ensuring he will finish the domestic season without a trophy.
Queen's Park produced one of the great Scottish Cup shocks by dumping Gers out of the competition on their own patch, thanks both to Sebastian Drozd's second half-strike and Callum Ferrie's stunning stoppage time penalty save from James Tavernier. It now leaves the Europa League as Clement's only potential path to silverware, haing lost the League Cup Final to Celtic and trailing their rivals by 13 points in the Premiership.
Asked if a Rangers manager can survive a trophyless season, Clement said: "It happened several times in the past. We know it's a rebuild. I'm focused on this game, on the next game. I don't think you can ask much more than to get 30 chances. nothing to do with tactics, it's about the quality of the moments.
"I'm confident (about my position). Everybody knows how hard everybody is working. Last week, everybody was saying that the team is making good steps, growing and in a great position in the Europa League.
"It's not because you lose a game you would normally win 99 times out of 100 that things change about the way things are working. If you do that, you're only living in emotions and there will never be stability at this club."
Asked for his take on a potentially fatal 97 minutes, Clement again clung to the number of chances his team created, but failed to take. He told Premier Sports: "It's super frustrating. First half was too low a tempo but we had the chances to come in front. Second half we raise our tempo.
"We have today, the most chances we've had this season. 30 chances, but no goals. Even the penalty not scoring. And you get one shot on target and you receive the goal. It's a hold up, but we should have scored more goals. At the end, it;s about that and we're out of the cup.
"We had the chances but not enough composure in those chances. There was too much rush. 30 chances in a game? That's a lot. 30 shots towards goal in a game? That's a lot. 12 on target? It's a lot. but not enough quality to score the goals. The goalkeeper on the other hand, played a marvellous game.
