Coventry City have agreed to send out rookie midfielder Kai Andrews on loan to Motherwell for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The 18-year-old joins the Scottish Premiership side, subject to international clearance. The midfielder, who has featured twice for the Sky Blues first team, will link-up with Motherwell ahead of their fixture on Wednesday night against Kilmarnock.

A graduate of the Championship club's Academy, Andrews was first handed his senior debut by Mark Robins in August 2023 when he went on as a late substitute in the 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the CBS Arena. He then had to wait seven months for his next opportunity when, again, he stepped off the bench late to get a handful of minutes in the 5-0 home win over Rotherham United.

Andrews, however, has been a regular unused sub in numerous matchday squads over the last 18 months, including 13 times this season.

Andrews, who will wear the number 54 shirt, said: “It’s great to be here. We have been exploring the idea of me going out on loan to get first-team minutes and be in that environment. I wanted a place where I felt I could perform at my best and this feels like the right place.

“The boys have been great so far at helping me settle in. I can’t wait to get started.”

Manager Stuart Kettlewell added: “We have got an excellent track record when it comes to bringing young players from England up here on loan.

“There is a genuine belief we can help their progression, and with the likes of James Furlong, Marvin Kaleta, Georgie Gent, Brodie Spencer and Mika Biereth all coming up here and doing well, we see this as a great opportunity not only for the club, but for Kai also.

“I recently watched him playing for his Under 19s national side against Scotland, and I thought he was a real standout. Coventry have made no secret that they rate him highly, so it’s an exciting signing.”
