FC Copenhagen vs Manchester United LIVE! Champions League result, match stream and latest updates today

Manchester United gave up a two-goal lead in a breathless 4-3 Champions League loss to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday that turned after Marcus Rashford was shown a red card following a brace by young United striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The loss was a calamitous setback in United's hopes for last-16 qualification with Erik ten Hag's side fourth in Group A on three points with two group games still to play.

Hojlund fired United to a brilliant start in a roller-coaster first half, scoring his first when the game was just 171 seconds old by tucking in Scott McTominay's pass from close range.

The 20-year-old netted again against his former club in the 28th minute after a Kamil Grabara save sent the ball spinning practically to his feet.

The tide turned when Rashford was shown a red card in the 42nd minute for planting his foot on the ankle of Elias Jelert to protect the ball. The moment breathed new life into the home side and Mohamed Elyounoussi pulled one back three minutes later.

There was more misery to come as Copenhagen were awarded a penalty right before halftime after Harry Maguire's handball, and Diogo Goncalves slotted it home past Andre Onana.

United briefly regained the lead when VAR awarded them a penalty for a handball which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted.

But they imploded in the final few minutes giving up two goals, in the 83rd when Lukas Lerager sprinted in to meet Rasmus Falk's cross and four minutes later when 17-year-old substitute Roony Bardghji fired home

FC Copenhagen vs Man United: Erik ten Hag's pre-match message

19:21 , Jonathan Gorrie

Speaking to TNT Sports, the under-fire Man United manager said: "Dictating, try to dictate, but at least control by defending and attacking as a team.

"We trust this team. They did very well on Saturday. They fought together. I know they can still do better in possession, but they fought as a team and then you give trust to the team."

FC Copenhagen vs Man United: Dimitar Berbatov prediction

19:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

Speaking to Betfair, the former Man United striker said: "Let's not jump to the conclusion, Manchester United need to take it game by game. Yes, they're favourites, but what is a favourite anymore?

"Luton played Liverpool the other day and that was a draw.

"Manchester United need to watch how the smaller teams are playing,to give them respect, otherwise, they will suffer by underestimating them.

"Copenhagen was a tough game last time, let's win against them first and then build up momentum.

"Copenhagen is a must-win game because Galatasaray away is a hardgame and Bayern Munich is even harder! If it's going to be a boring, scrappy game, then we must sacrifice to get the three points, no matter what.

"In some games, it's all about the result and not the performance,Copenhagen will be just like this, as was Fulham. But if Manchester United play the same way they did in the reverse fixture, then there will be problems."

Manchester United injury update: Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Luke Shaw latest news and return dates

18:18 , Jonathan Gorrie

Manchester United have been dealing with mounting injury problems this season.

While there are bigger issues at the club in terms of open fan revolt against the Glazer Family ownership as well as a string of poor performances from Erik ten Hag’s side, there is little doubt the lengthy absence list has not helped matters.

The United boss has been without a number of key players all season and Marcus Rashford appears to have added to the concerns by sitting out of their tight win over Fulham on Saturday.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Man United injuries.

Copenhagen vs Man United: Erik ten Hag hails 'example' Bruno Fernandes

17:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

Erik ten Hag gave a glowing assessment of Bruno Fernandes’s importance to Manchester United, insisting his captain is “absolutely the example” to the rest of the team.

Fernandes scored a late winner at Craven Cottage as United beat Fulham 1-0 on Saturday, easing the pressure on Ten Hag following successive 3-0 home defeats by Manchester City and Newcastle in the past week.

Copenhagen vs Man Utd: Gabriel Barbosa gives blunt response to transfer interest amid Antony plan

17:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

Manchester United's hopes of swapping flop Antony for Gabriel Barbosa have been dashed.

Reports emerged earlier this week that United were looking into an audacious January deal to send Antony back to his homeland of Brazil in exchange for Flamengo star Gabigol.

Antony has endured a tough time since his startling £82million move from Antony and was recently called out by United legend Rio Ferdinand after another toothless display, this time against Fulham.

Prediction: 1-1 draw

17:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

Copenhagen should not be counted out in front of their own fans. It feels like any team worth their salt can give United a game at the moment and the hosts fall into that category.

United have the required talent on paper so should be winning with ease, but this will be a tight game.

1-1 draw.

Man United team news: Rashford back

17:30 , Jonathan Gorrie

Marcus Rashford missed the win at Fulham after picking up a knock in training but travelled with the squad and is now expected to start in Denmark.

Victor Lindelof has overcome an illness but Raphael Varane will surely come into the team after curiously sitting out the trip to London and loss to Manchester City, partnering Harry Maguire at centre-back. Sergio Reguilon is fighting Diogo Dalot for a start at left-back.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Amad Diallo and Tyrell Malacia are longer-term injury absentees, while Jadon Sancho remains unavailable for selection.
