Manchester City will face a familiar face when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to the Etihad in the FA Cup this evening.

Midfielder Darko Gyabi, who is on loan at Plymouth from Leeds United, joined City aged 14 from Millwall and spent four years in the club’s academy. Despite failing to make a first team appearance during his time at the club, Gyabi was regularly called up to train with the first team, where he got to get up close and personal with City’s world class stars.

The 21-year-old left City as part of the deal which saw Kalvin Phillips join the Blues. During his time at the club he made four appearances for the Under 21 side in the EFL Trophy, and was part of an academy side which included the likes of Rico Lewis and Nico O’Rielly.

When asked in an interview with Sky Sports which players were particularly welcoming to him at his time at City, Gyabi answered, “I think one that stood out to me was how humble Kevin De Bruyne was. He's down to earth and encourages young players. Playing up against him during training I was even more surprised at how good he was, just because he was so sharp and so ahead of the game.”

Gyabi is apart of an Argyle team struggling for form in their second season back in the Championship. However, despite sitting in the relegation zone, the Pilgrims caused one of the biggest FA Cup upsets in recent memory when knocking out runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool 1-0 in the last round.

Both Gyabi and Plymouth will be hoping to repeat the trick tonight.
