Coventry 2 Watford 1 minute-by-minute report
Two goals from Victor Torp earned Coventry a 2-1 win over a Watford side that showed plenty of character and fight.
The Hornets were second best and a goal down at the break, but rallied well either side of half time before Torp curled home a free-kick to make it 2-0.
That seemed to be the end but Moussa Sissoko pulled one back and the Hornets pushed, but without success, through six minutes of stoppage time.
There were four changes, some enforced by injuries, to the starting line-up.
Ryan Porteous replaced Francisco Sierralta in defence, and James Morris came in to play on the left.
Sissoko dropped to the bench with Tom Dele-Bashiru coming in, while Girogi Chakvetadze was in the team with the injured Kwadwo Baah ruled out for a couple of months.
Imran Louza was also absent through injury, and the same went for Festy Ebosele.
The Hornets had to play second fiddle for much of the first half but Jonathan Bond had only made one save before the home side went ahead.
Going behind seemed to bring Watford and they ended the half in the ascendancy, creating a couple of decent chances.
Once Coventry got their second it seemed it was game over, but Sissoko set up a frantic finale although ultimately the home side held on.
Here’s how the game unfolded:
5 - van Ewijk slides the ball into the box and into the path of Thomas-Asante, but he has stretch and pokes the ball into the side netting.
8 - Thomas-Asante found a lot of space in the box and Bond had to tip his low shot wide.
13 - First Watford attack, and Larouci loses the ball but it runs for Kayembe who shoots over from 20 yards.
16 - Rudoni's deep free kick from the left reaches Kitching beyond the back post, but his scoops the ball over the top.
26 - Ngakia broke down the right, fed the overlapping Porteous and then took the return before seeing his shot deflected wide.
32 – Coventry 1 (Torp) Watford 0
Pressure told in the end, though Rudoni was given a lot of space down the right and when his cross cleared a group in the middle, Torp turned it home at the back post.
42 - Great chance as Dele-Bashiru's smart run is spotted by Porteous. The midfielder turns and shoots, Dovin parries and Bayo's follow-up header is straight at the keeper.
43 - Bayo blocks and the ball spins out to the left. The striker chases the ball and crosses it back into the box but Vata slices his shot wide.
Half-time – Coventry 1 Watford 0
75 – Coventry 2 (Torp) Watford 0
After having a free kick-charged down but striking an arm, Corp curls the second one up and over the wall and inside the left-hand upright.
81 - Coventry 2 Watford 1 (Sissoko)
Maybe it's not all over! Sissoko gathers a pass in the box, turns and shoots inside the far post.
84 - Patient build-up ends with Chakvetadze shooting from the edge of the box and Dovin tipping round the post.
Full-time – Coventry 2 Watford 1
