Coventry City were the ‘big movers’ in the promotion odds at the weekend after the Championship club’s 2-1 win over Watford – the third consecutive league victory for the Sky Blues.

Frank Lampard has guided the club to six wins, three draws and three defeats in his 12 league games to date since taking charge at the CBS Arena, lifting the team up from 17th in the table on 17 points from their first 17 games – just two points above the relegation zone – to 12th place and only six points away from the play-off places.

Their latest result has seen their promotion odds being cut from 33/1 to 20/1. Elsewhere, after a shock 3-0 home defeat to relegation threatened Hull City on Friday night, Sheffield United’s odds for promotion have drifted from 2/5 to 8/11, seeing the probability of returning to the Premier League next season shift from a very favourable 71.4% to 57.9%.

Betfred’s Robert Ford said: “Going into Friday evening’s game, Hull City had won one of their previous four league games and were at 9/2 to pull off a shock at Bramhall Lane. Sheffield United, who went into the game at 3/5 to win, hadn’t lost at home to The Tigers for over 14 years and after Hull’s romp, their odds for promotion have drifted from 2/5 to 8/11. Before Friday’s game, The Blades have seen their probability of promotion fall by 13.5% from 71.4% to 57.9%.

“Another big movement, in the other direction, is Frank Lampard’s Coventry City. After their 2-1 win against Watford on Saturday, Coventry’s odds have been cut from 33/1 to 20/1. They’ve won their last three league games and are climbing the table. Despite sitting in 12th place, their momentum has taken them into a healthy position of being just six points off sixth-placed Middlesbrough with 17 games still to play. They’re outsiders as it stands, but they’re certainly a club to keep an eye on in this market.

“Leeds United are still looking almost nailed on for promotion going into tonight’s clash with third-placed Burnley at Turf Moor at 1/33 (97.1% likelihood). Burnley (4/7), Sunderland (11/8) and Middlesbrough (7/2) sit alongside Leeds and Sheffield United as leaders in the market.”

Championship promotion odds and probability:

Leeds United - 1/33 from 1/33 (97.1% from 97.1%)

Burnley - 4/7 from 8/13 (63.6% from 61.9%)

Sheffield United - 8/11 from 2/5 (57.9% from 71.4%)

Sunderland - 11/8 from 5/4 (42.1% from 44.4%)

Middlesbrough - 7/2 from 11/4 (22.2% from 26.7%)

West Bromwich Albion - 6/1 from 8/1 (14.3% from 11.1%)

Blackburn Rovers - 20/1 from 25/1 (4.8% from 3.8%)

Norwich City - 20/1 from 25/1 (4.8% from 3.8%)

Coventry City - 20/1 from 33/1 (4.8% from 2.9%)

Bristol City - 25/1 from 25/1 (3.8% from 3.8%)

Sheffield Wednesday - 25/1 from 40/1 (3.8% from 2.4%)

Watford - 50/1 from 40/1 (2% from 2.4%)
