With Matt Grimes having completed his move and joining in his first few training sessions with his new Coventry City teammates, all eyes now turn to Wednesday night’s CBS Arena match with table toppers Leeds United.

And the big question on every Sky Blues fans’ mind is will the 29-year-old midfielder go straight into the starting line-up or make his debut from the bench? Certainly, in normal circumstances Frank Lampard might be tempted to stick with a winning team, particularly given his side’s impressive run of four consecutive Championship wins.

But the fact that City have midweek league games either side of Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Premier League Ipswich Town – a match in which Grimes is cup-tied and not allowed to play – means that it makes perfect sense to throw him straight in on Wednesday night. That way Lampard can manage his squad by resting one of his current starters, with either Jamie Allen or Victor Torp likely to make way for the new man.

Another argument, of course, is that City should play their strongest team against the league leaders, so why would Lampard leave out such a high quality player in Grimes who is fully fit, up to speed and ready to hit the ground running after being ever-present for Swansea this season? He's a hugely influential player who can help control the midfield, and the last thing City need is for him to miss another game, having been unable to play against his former club at the weekend.

With deadline day expected to pass relatively quietly with no other new signings being made, there’s no reason to make any other changes from the weekend’s impressive all-round away day display and victory in South Wales. The one player who might just be the icing on the midterm window cake is if Doug King sanctions the signing of Jamie Paterson on a free transfer – the Coventry-born forward having impressed while training with the club in recent weeks.

There’s no rush to get the deal done today (Feb 3), however, because he’s a free agent and can be signed outside the deadline, but if he is registered in time to play against Leeds then he’d likely be an option from the bench.

Predicted post deadline day team to face Leeds: Oliver Dovin; Joel Latibeaudiere, Bobby Thomas, Liam Kitching; Milan van Ewijk, Jamie Allen, Matt Grimes, Jack Rudoni, Jake Bidwell; Brandon Thomas-Asante, Ellis Simms.
