Coventry City 'hold talks' over defender transfer with Championship rivals
Coventry City have reportedly held talks with Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers over a potential January transfer for defender Liam Kitching. Centre half Kitching, who only joined City from Barnsley at the end of the summer transfer window in 2023, played 32 times last season and was sent off three times for the Sky Blues - including against Rovers on the final day of the season.
This year, Kitching has made only eight league appearances under Mark Robins and then Frank Lampard; he was a late substitute on Boxing Day as the club cruised to a 4-0 win over Plymouth Argyle, but he completed 90 minutes in the dramatic collapse at Norwich City last time out - a full game for the first time in Lampard's tenure.
For most of this campaign, Kitching - who cost the club around £4m - has played second fiddle to centre half counterparts Bobby Thomas, Luis Binks and Joel Latibeaudiere and Blackburn, eager to bring in defensive cover this month after losing Harry Pickering to a knee injury at Millwall just prior to Christmas.

The Lancashire Telegraph report that Rovers, who signed veteran Kyle McFadzean last January after his Sky Blues contract was terminated by mutual consent, have put the feelers out and made contact with City over a potential move, which would be on loan, for Kitching this month. Their boss John Eustace, though, admitted no incoming business was close.
“Nothing at the moment," Eustace said. "I know the club are working very hard to try and bring some players in, so hopefully we can continue doing that and see where it takes us. I am sure there won’t be anyone in before the weekend.”
