Coventry City are one of a number of clubs interested in a goal scoring forward currently ripping it up in the eighth tier of the English football pyramid.

According to a report by Football League World, the Sky Blues are one of three clubs “eyeing moves” for left-winger Charlie Warren of non-league side Felixstowe and Walton United.

The 20-year-old has scored 26 goals and provided numerous assists for the leaders of the Isthmian League North Division which has apparently caught the attention of City’s scouting network along with League One outfits Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln.

A left-footed wide man, the reports says: “Warren can operate on either flank as well as through the middle as an attacking midfielder, and the prospect has already developed a penchant for being something of a set-piece specialist.”

The lad spent last week on trial at Wycombe, completing the full 90 minutes in their match at Beaconsfield Town in the Berks and Bucks Cup semi-final, which the hosts won 4-3.

The Sky Blues have been no strangers to plucking young talent from non-league, with the likes of Sam McCallum one of the biggest success stories in recent years, having been signed from Herne Bay via the Jamie Vardy Academy and going on to be sold for £3.5m to Norwich City, and currently playing for Sheffield United.

City had a clear development policy during Mark Robins’ tenure, often acquiring young talent for the club’s Under-21s in the hope of them eventually progressing into the first team, albeit there have been many who have fallen by the wayside.
