Coventry City have parted company with first team coach George Boateng following the appointment of Frank Lampard as the club’s new head coach.

Lampard has brought with him two new coaches, Joe Edwards and Chris Jones as his right-hand men who have previously worked with him at Chelsea, Derby and Everton.

Boateng, who was a hugely popular player for the Sky Blues during their Premier League years, returned to the club in the summer as part of Mark Robins’ new-look backroom, joining along with Rhys Carr as replacements for Dennis Lawrence, who left the club last April for an opportunity to become assistant manager at Minnesota United of the MLS.

It’s unclear at this stage if there will be any further departures, or arrivals, on the coaching front.

A club statement read: “ Coventry City can confirm that First-Team Coach George Boateng has today left the Club.

“We would all like to thank George for his contribution to the Sky Blues since his return to the Club in the Summer.

“George was a popular figure with the Sky Blues, adding to his 57 game and 7 goal playing spell at the Club during the 90s.

“We all wish George the best of luck for the future.”
