Midfielder Jamie Allen admits in the aftermath of Coventry City's dramatic defeat at Norwich City on Saturday that he couldn't 'put his finger' on what the issue is that the Sky Blues are currently facing up to - but he and his teammates intend to work harder on the training pitch in the week to source a solution.

Boss Frank Lampard has been in charge of the club for nine matches now, and the inconsistencies in the club's form couldn't be clearer - they've claimed three victories, been held to three draws and suffered three defeats, the most recent coming at Carrow Road over the weekend.

Things should've been different. Leading through Milan van Ewijk's first half opener, the Sky Blues entered stoppage time still in the lead, but Forson Amankwah - who'd only been on the pitch himself a little over five minutes - stunned City and Lampard with a stoppage time brace to steal all the points and send the Sky Blues back to the Midlands empty handed.

Allen, into his sixth season with the club, chose to retain the positive aspects out of the overall display despite the disappointment and touched on the ideas which Lampard is still implementing on the training pitch, ahead of welcoming Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“It's just little things," he said. "I really can't put my finger on it which they are, but we're working together. The new head coach has come in and got his good ideas, and we're working with those ideas and hopefully we can put performances like that together week and week out, and then hopefully results come.

“I think it'll take time to get over it a bit, and then hopefully the boys come in next week, and it's in the past now. So, we have to work forward and think about the future.”

Most recently, Allen has returned to action after a lengthy layoff; the midfielder was granted short cameos in the heavy defeat at Portsmouth and the convincing victory over Plymouth Argyle, but at Norwich he was handed a start and actually completed the whole match.

“Yeah, it's my first start since my injury. I'm so happy to be back in the team, helping the team," he added. “I felt like I've worked hard, I felt the whole team did as well. We worked as a proper team, and I hope it continues.”
