Cox ruled out for several weeks after suffering foot injury
George Cox is facing a long period on the sidelines after injuring his foot for Swindon Town against Notts County last weekend.
The former Fortuna Sittard man has fractured his Menial Cuneiform, the club has confirmed, during the game at Meadow Lane last Saturday and now will miss a large chunk of games.
The Menial Cuneiform is the largest of the three bones at the top of the foot and fracturing it is a rare injury.
Since joining on Deadline Day in the summer, Cox has been an ever-present in the side and has only missed one league game under both Mark Kennedy and Ian Holloway.
However, Town will now be without him throughout January and February due to the injury, which Ian Holloway revaled in his press conference ahead of playing Crewe Alexandra this weekend.
He said: “Coxy has broken his foot, can you believe that? He did it in the first five minutes [against Notts County].
“He actually broke his foot in the first five minutes and then played another forty and now he is going to be out for six to eight weeks.
“That is absolutely amazing, I have never seen anything like it but that is what happens and I am definitely going to need to throw some sage around because there is some weird stuff going on.”
The injury to Cox leaves Holloway with Billy Kirkman and Rosaire Longelo as options at left wing-back and he said the injury may have altered his plans in the transfer market.
Swindon are already dealing with lots of injuries in defensive areas, with Grant Hall, Joel McGregor, and Harrison Minturn all out at the moment.
He said: “It totally changes things and it is more than just George as it is what it does to Billy.
“If I had the choice of two down that side with George and Billy with the amount of games that we have got and the intensity of the games then this is definitely going to change the dynamic.
“Billy can cover for [Ryan] Delaney as well and he is only young, so he might get injured and sometimes young ones do really well and then have a bit of a dip.
“He has been sensational so far but you have to try and protect them and this changes the whole dynamic.
“I have always done it with fewer players and the odd utility one.”
