'Cracking finish' - Boston boss Coughlan credits Sinclair strike in defeat for City
GRAHAM Coughlan gave full credit to Tyrese Sinclair for his wonder strike against Boston United on Saturday, whilst also expressing his delight at the result against York City.
Sinclair had struck an unstoppable long-ranged effort that found the top corner past Cameron Gregory in the seventh minute, with York storming into an early lead at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
City wouldn’t be able to hold onto their lead for longer than 21 minutes, as Connor Teale poked a strike past Harrison Male, who had made two incredible saves prior, and injured himself in the process of trying to keep out the equaliser.
Jimmy Knowles’ tap-in in the second-half was then added to by Jacob Hazel, flicking an effort over substitute goalkeeper Rory Watson, with the Minstermen suffering a frustrating defeat to second-bottom Boston on the road.
Coughlan was complimentary of the Sinclair strike and admitted that he was feeling déjà vu from previous defeats in the early stages, but also demanded consistency from his squad after just a fourth league win all campaign.
“Honest to god, I thought ‘here we go again!’” Coughlan told club media.
“Solihull, it was in the top corner, Ebbsfleet, top corner.
“I just thought ‘oh no, here we go’ as soon as that went in, it’s a cracking finish.
“I need to look at the goal, are we pressing, are we closing them down hard enough? It was a hell of a finish, so let’s give the lad credit and I won’t nick-pick, but let’s give the lad a bit of credit.”
Speaking on the performance, Coughlan added: “The game in the first-half, they had one shot that went in, we had a shot where Frankie [Maguire] cut in and went wide.
“They were then 1-0 up, Cam pulled off a great save, their goalie then pulled off two great saves, one from Tealey [Teale] and one from Knowlesy [Knowles].
“Yeah, it does [warrant a smile], I might even allow myself a beer!
“It’s like I said to the players, it’s in there, it’s within them. Mentality, mindset, they got everything nearly right and nearly spot on today.
“There were one or two little bits of pieces that we need to tidy up on, but it’s in there and they’ve done it.
“They’ve done it three times, once against Sutton and twice against York, we also did it against Gateshead in the cup.
“It’s within them and they’ve got it, but I just don’t see it often enough.
“That’s me asking the lads now to hit a bit of consistency, build on it and get some momentum, they should get massive confidence from today.
“The second-half was really pleasing, that’s a proper performance.
“We’ve not had too many proper performances this season, so as I said to the players after the game, I’m well within my rights to ask for that again and for more of that.”
