Viktoria Plzen striker Matej Vydra has revealed Bruno Fernandes told him he "doesn't like playing against Czech teams" due to their running power after Manchester United's 2-1 Europa League win at the Doosan Arena on Thursday evening.

United came from behind to secure a third successive Europa League victory, inspired by two second half goals from substitute Rasmus Hojlund.

The Reds, who produced a tepid display in the first half, fell behind shortly after half-time when former Watford and Derby County forward Vydra pounced on an error from goalkeeper Andre Onana.

However, United, thanks to Ruben Amorim's thinking, turned the game on its head after some inspired substitutions. Hojlund levelled proceedings within six minutes of stepping off the bench before crashing home the winner two minutes from time.

Nevertheless, United were forced to work hard for all three points that lifted them into the automatic qualification places for the Europa League knockout stage. And the amount of effort that was required was, it seems, no surprise to Fernandes, who had a word with Vydra following the full-time whistle.

Vydra, speaking to iSport, said: "Bruno said that he doesn't like playing against Czech teams, or even our national team, because they say we run like crazy."

On his post-match chat with the United captain, Vydra, who played in the Premier League for Burnley, Watford and West Bromwich Albion, added: "I was looking forward to seeing a few players from United, we know each other, we chatted for a while after the match. It was wonderful to play against such a club again.

“With Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and the goalkeeper Tom Heaton. We talked about families, in general. And also about the fact that they took a point [points] from us."
