Cricket legend's fund helps football club buy new goals
A sports fund backed by a cricket legend is helping a football club buy new goals for their young players.
Spencers Wood FC was given funds from the Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund, which is supported by former England bowler, Darren Gough.
The fund was set up to help sports teams in rural communities with new equipment.
The club, which was founded in 1977 and is based in Clares Green Road, is putting the money towards new goals for its under-7s and under-8s teams.
Club chairman James Curran said: "We're really grateful to the fund for supporting our grassroots club.
"It has enabled us to buy much-needed goals for our under-7s and under-8s teams.
"Finding the money to replace old equipment can often be a challenge for small rural clubs like ours, which is why Gigaclear’s contribution is so important."
The club has teams in various age groups, ranging from under-6s, all the way through to veterans and ladies’ teams.
It is affiliated with the Berks & Bucks FA.
The fund's ambassador, Darren Gough, said: "Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most.
"It’s great to see so much kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Spencers Wood FC, and I wish them every success.
"I believe the fund is helping make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future."
