Croft twins raise over £17,000 in support of fellow Pembrokeshire athlete
The Croft twins raised over £17,000 last weekend in support of a fellow athlete from Pembrokeshire.
On Saturday, January 18, Ioan and Garan Croft auctioned a bespoke painting of themselves at Hotel Plas Hyfryd, Narberth.
The money will go towards supporting Mia Lloyd in her quest to compete at the future Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.
Ioan Croft said: “We’ve got where we are in the sport from local sponsors, friends and people in the community. As a result, we feel like we have found our way in boxing.
“The painting was given to us as a gift, and it would have been wrong to pocket the money. Instead, we are dedicating the money to a good cause.
“Being local, we know how hard it is be an athlete. There’s a lot of transport costs and reliance on parents, who sometimes have to take a day off work just to drop you somewhere. These are challenges people living in the city are not aware of.
“It’s inspiring for all of us to help Mia with the money raised and hopefully it makes her journey a little bit easier.”
The event also featured a three-course meal, an auction for other prestigious items and live music from The Dhogie Band.
Hotel Plas Hyfryd, Narberth posted on Facebook: “We're proud to announce that over £17,000 was raised at The Plas on Saturday night as part of Ioan Croft and Garan Croft’s fundraising event
“The money raised will help to support them and Mia Lloyd with their sporting endeavours. Good luck and we are proud to be a part of your journey
“Also, a massive thank you to everyone who attended on the weekend to support this great cause. What an amazing community we live in!”
Both Croft twins made their successful professional boxing debut on December 7, 2024, in Ireland where they both won via first-round stoppage.
Around 100 people made the journey from Pembrokeshire to support the former Commonwealth Games medallists.
Ioan defeated Bartosz Glowacki at middleweight while Garan beat Ermin Sali at super welterweight.
However, Ioan and Garan will fight on different cards for the second fight of their careers.
Garan is set to appear on the undercard of Adam Azim vs Sergey Lipinets at Wembley Arena, London on February 1.
Meanwhile, Ioan will fight at Vale Arena in Cardiff on March 1.
