Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner: Munoz ban gives him time to rest

Crystal Palace will be without Daniel Munoz for their next two matches, with the Colombian suspended in both the Carabao Cup and the Premier League.

The wing-back hit the five yellow card threshold for a one-match ban in the Premier League during Sunday’s win at Brighton, while he also has two bookings in the EFL Cup, leading to another competition-specific ban.

Munoz will, therefore, miss two opportunities to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this week, with the 28-year-old sidelined until Boxing Day.

Signed from Genk on January 30th, Munoz has featured in every competitive Crystal Palace game this season.

In October, Munoz was ruled out for Colombia’s World Cup qualifiers due to an adductor issue, with that period of recovery his only rest this term.

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner is trying to take the positives from Munoz’s ban, concluding that a period of rest could benefit the Copa America finalist.

“He had a very small injury in October,” said Glasner.

“It was tough for him because he wanted to go to Colombia, and he couldn’t.

“I said to him maybe it helps him this time. Your body tells you when you need to rest. You don’t want it, but in this situation, his body told him that his body needs to rest.

“He spent one week to ten days away from team training, which helped him because afterwards he was in a better shape.

“Now, I’ve given him several days off to recover. Physically and mentally, he is always the guy with the highest output in every single game and every single training session.

“He’s played almost every minute and he plays for Colombia.

“The guy who is most angry is himself because he wants to play every single game.

“But it is now like that. We have to find the best out of it, which is giving him time off.”
