Crystal Palace hold talks with Oliver Glasner as they prepare to sack Roy Hodgson
Crystal Palace are in talks with former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner about replacing Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park.
Pressure has been growing on Hodgson after a run of four wins in 18 Premier League matches and it now seems like a matter of time until he is sacked.
Talks are underway over who will replace Hodgson and Palace have turned to Glasner after Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna ruled out a move from the Championship promotion chasers.
Glasner has been out of work since leaving Frankfurt at the end of last season.
The 49-year-old Austrian led Frankfurt to the Europa League in 2022, when they beat West Ham in the semi-finals, and also got them to the German Cup Final in 2023.
Talks between Palace and Glasner are continuing today over the terms of a deal.
It is unclear whether 76-year-old Hodgson will still be in charge when Palace play Everton at Goodison Park on Monday.
The Eagles have been dragged into a relegation battle after a dismal run and Palace decided a change is needed after their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday.
Palace are just five points above the bottom three and senior club officials are concerned about the growing threat of relegation.
Monday’s trip to Merseyside is the start of a crucial run of fixtures for Palace in which they play fellow strugglers Everton, Burnley and Luton in three of their next four matches.
Glasner has also been linked with the Bayern Munich job as pressure builds on Thomas Tuchel following their 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the Champions League last night.
Before Frankfurt, Glasner took Wolfsburg to the Champions League against the odds after making his name with LASK in Austria.
He excelled at Eintracht and is a highly-rated coach who is tactically very adept. He likes his teams to press and is known to be good at organising a defensive unit. Glasner speaks excellent English, so language would not be a problem.
Palace have faced growing discontent from supporters in recent week.
A section of fans made their feelings known during a 5-0 defeat against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium last month, holding up a banner which criticised the club and read: “Wasted potential on and off the pitch. Weak decisions taking us backwards.”
Palace have also been hit by injuries to key players and are expected to be without Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze against Everton.
Hodgson kept Palace up when he returned in March last year and he was kept on this season. Parish had wanted to wait until the summer before appointed a new manager but scrutiny on Hodgson has been building in recent weeks.
Hodgson has been on thin ice since the Arsenal defeat but he gave himself some breathing space with a 3-2 win against Sheffield United at the end of last month.
But Palace were then thrashed 4-1 by Brighton before their defeat to Chelsea, when Conor Gallagher came back to haunt his former side with a late winner.
