CWMBRAN Celtic aim to climb out of the Cymru South relegation zone this afternoon when they host Newport City.

The Torfaen team are currently bottom of the table but have games in hand on their rivals and are within striking distance.

They would go above both Taffs Well and Penrhiwceiber Rangers with victory today, plus Goytre United if it was a comprehensive success.

Newport got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Caerau Ely before Christmas and are aiming to build up a head of steam and return to their form from early in the campaign.

Trethomas Bluebirds will go to the top of the table if they win against Carmarthen Town in Ystrad Mynach today.

Remarkably, Mark Dunford’s side, who travel to Spytty Park to face the Steelmen on January 3, are yet to play in December and dropped to third after Boxing Day wins for Llanelli and Pontypridd.

However, promotion favourites Llanelli will have the chance to start 2025 as pacesetters when they host Baglan Dragons on Monday.

Cymru South: Cwmbran Celtic v Newport City, Trethomas Bluebirds v Carmarthen Town.

Ardal South East: Abercarn United v Chepstow Town, Abergavenny Town v Treowen Stars, Blaenavon Blues v Brecon Corries, Newport Corinthians v Tredegar Town, Treharris Athletic Western v Abertillery Bluebirds. (Sunday: Canton v Undy).
