Cyriel Dessers transfer exit fee prophesied and Nathan Patterson saga takes another twist – Rangers news latest
Rangers hero Billy Dodds admits his gut feeling tells him Cyriel Dessers will leave the club this month - but reckons Ibrox bosses will be able to command a sizeable fee for the Nigerian frontman.
The emergence of summer signing Hamza Igamane has seen No.9 Dessers fall down the pecking order in Philippe Clement's side, with Brazilian forward Danilo also ahead of the former Feyenoord striker. Clement has admitted that the 30-year-old could be moved on before the January window slams shut, but insists he would also need to be replaced.
Despite his well-documented misses in front of goal, Dessers' hat trick in Sunday's 5-0 drubbing of Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup has taken his tally for the season so far to 16 strikes in 33 games and Rangers favourite Dodds believes that clubs around Europe will be willing to take a gamble on him this month. The Dutch-born attacker has already been linked with Empoli and Cagliarli in Italy's top-flight.

Speaking on the GO Radio Football Show, Dodds said: "There are some players who have left in months gone by that Rangers don't feel they got the right transfer fee for. He is one that can get you a bit of proper money, just by being a striker because people are desperate in this window to get someone who can score goals.
"It's as if he (Dessers) is relaxed now because he knows Igamane and Danilo are in front of them but will try and score a few goals and get his move. That's the feeling I get."
Former St Mirren and Watford star Stephen McGinn was also on the show reckons that Rangers could recoup a good chunk of the reported £4.5million forked out by the Light Blues to sign the Nigerian from Cremonese in 2022. He added: "It's a difficult decision for Rangers. Danilo can't get going and Hamza Igamane is the striker with the big potential who has got the jersey just now.
"But if he has a dip, do you get rid of the guy who on the bench who guarantees you goals? I still don't think getting Lawrence Shankland would be a daft bit of business if you can get £2-3million for Dessers."
Elsewhere, Nathan Patterson's long-term future at Everton remains unclear, with the Toffees reportedly in the market for another right back. The arrival of fellow Scot David Moyes for a second spell in the dugout in the wake of Sean Dyche's departure had sparked fresh hope that the full back could pick up some more minutes in the remainder of the season.
But Relevo claim that the Goodison Park club have opened talks with AC Milan over a deal for Brazilian defender Emerson Royal. A loan return to Rangers for Patterson has been mooted, with Feyenoord loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo set to miss the rest of the season with injury while Ibrox captain James Tavernier can't hold down a regular place in Clement's team.
