Damning stats showing England’s struggles under Steve Borthwick
England lost a fourth successive match after Australia grabbed victory in the dying seconds at Twickenham.
Here are the alarming stats that show the recent struggles of Steve Borthwick’s side.
1. England’s win percentage in 2024 is 40 per cent
In this calendar year, England are four wins from 10, with the only victories coming against Wales, Italy, Ireland and Japan.
2. England concede second most points at Twickenham
Against Australia, England conceded 42 points, their second most ever. Borthwick also oversaw the record when England conceded 53 points against France last year, while he started when England also conceded 42 points against South Africa in 2008.
3. Most points scored by Australia away from home against England in a half
The 20 points scored by Joe Schmidt’s side was the most since their 2015 World Cup win when they registered 17 before the break, which was also their last win at Twickenham.
4. England miss a whopping 35 tackles
Australia missed 11 less than England, who missed 15 per cent of all tackles attempted missed under new defence coach Joe El-Abd.
5. England lose four Test matches in a row for first time since 2018
A poor year under Eddie Jones, prior to a bounce back for the World Cup a year later, saw England lose five Tests on the bounce. England play the Springboks next weekend to try and avoid reaching the same mark.

The Wallabies lost to England eight times in a row while Eddie Jones was in charge from 2016 to 2021, but have performed better in the last four outings against a mixture of Jones and Borthwick teams.

The 13 line breaks conceded against Australia was a record high this decade.
