The 6,000-strong Newcastle United contingent were in no rush to leave the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening as they basked in the feeling of euphoria following a 2-0 win over Arsenal. The Magpies made their way round the pitch for a customary lap of honour and were applauded by a packed away end until they made their way down the tunnel.

Martin Dubravka's teary farewell caught the eye as he waved to the Newcastle fans, rubbing his eyes in an emotional move that seemed to all but confirm he will soon leave the club he joined seven years ago. What went unnoticed by the Sky Sports and ITV cameras was Dan Burn's role in the post-match moment.

As Newcastle's players reached the corner flag and headed back towards the dressing room, Dubravka had hung back and was walking alone, savouring every moment. It was then that Burn spotted Dubravka mingling at the back and shoved him towards the away end on his own, allowing him a potential final moment in the spotlight as a Newcastle player.

Burn rejoined the group and repeatedly pointed at Dubravka, urging the crowd to give the goalkeeper his flowers. Another show of leadership from Newcastle's giant on and off the field.

Dubravka looks to be Saudi-bound after Al-Shabab explored what it would take to sign the 35-year-old during the winter window. One final payday and a new challenge abroad likely excites the veteran goalkeeper, who is out of contract on a free in the summer.

“I’ve got nothing to add on that,” said Eddie Howe, when asked whether Dubravka was saying goodbye at full-time. “With Martin, we’ve been preparing for this game, and we’ve had a lot of games in quick succession, so I’ve not spoken to anybody about that.

“He’s playing very, very well, and certainly from my side, I wouldn’t want to lose him at all. But I genuinely know nothing. I’ve been head down, into the game. I’m sure I’ll speak to Paul (Mitchell, sporting director) at some stage.”

Pressed further on Dubravka and asked if he would prefer a new contract to be offered to the player, Howe added: “That would be my wish.”

Nick Pope is on his way back to full fitness on Tyneside, while Odysseas Vlachodimos could step into the shoes of a No 2 on Tyneside. Burnley's James Trafford also continues to be linked with a move to St James' Park.
